Affiliate Ads – 6 Tips on How To Make Money From Affiliate Ad Programs
Lahle Wolfe over at About.com offers up six tips on how to leverage Affiliate Ad Programs. These tips are generally for newcomers, but are a good reminder for everyone.
Top Three Takeaways:
1 – The quality of your website content matters!
2 – Keep your affiliate ads connected to your website’s purpose and content as much as possible.
3 – You will not make money by adding porn and other adult content to a general interest website.

Pagerank Explained. Google’s PageRank and how to make the most of it.
From the article: “PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be.”
Google describes page rank in the following way: “PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.”

How To Get A New Site Crawled in 2 Hours
The author discuss simple techniques on how to get a brand new site crawled in less than 2 hours.
From the Article: “Here’s a totally free technique that I’ve been using for what seems like forever for attracting googlebot (the google web crawler or spider) to my sites, but never really officially told anybody about it.”
“If you use wordpress you probably already know that within the wordpress admin panel you have the option to set a “ping list””
“The problem with having a massive list is that every time you create a new post, wordpress will automatically attempt to contact (or ping) every one of these URLs – and if you have alot[sic] of them in there it’s going to take forever before your post gets saved – or worse yet your host will simply time out. The end result would be an extremely slow performing blog.”
“But this ping list is where the magic is – if you do it right. I have just 5 URLs (or services) in my ping list, and between them they can attract the much coveted googlebot to your site literally within a couple of hours at most.”
“Don’t confuse this technique with getting your site indexed (added to the search engine lists), as that all depends on what the spiders find once they get to your site. If they find good quality unique content, you’ll get indexed very quickly and will stay there too.”
“So, here’s the author’s[sic] list of ping URLs:”

Three simple actions that doubled my website traffic in 30 days
Adrian W Kingsley-Hughes, in an older post at Problogger.net, offers three useful tips on how to increase traffic to your site.
From the Article: “First, I made the most of Technorati tags. I tagged every key word in each of my posts.”
“I placed a few FeedBurner headline animator blocks on some of my most popular pages and after a day or so I noticed a significant increase in traffic for 5 minutes worth of work on my part.”
“Finally, I made effective use of trackback links to popular sites. If I commented on a post on another site I would make sure that I set up the appropriate trackback for it.”
I’ve personally used the Technorati and trackback techniques in the past with success.
Make Money Online: 100+ Tools and Resources
Great list of programs and opportunities that exist to use the Internet as a way to earn money. [Updated: Older list but still valid for much of the programs]
From the article: “Making money online is a dream for many, but the simple fact is that it’s often just as tough as making money offline. Due to requests, we’ve put together a list of the most popular money making methods today, many of them focused on blogging and peer production.
A word of caution: for the sake of completeness, we’ve included a small number of sites that have been criticized for their ethics. If it sounds too good to be true, it generally is. Commenters are welcome to share their experiences of the various sites.”
Getting Relevant Back Links
So there are a few things to think about on a site that uses affiliate marketing:
Do I create an affiliate website for a single product or do I create an affiliate website to show a number of affiliate products? OR am I in a position to add selected affiliate programs to an existing website (using a program that relates to my content?)
Many folks getting started are building a site from scratch. Content is king, but getting the linkage that helps drive Page Rank, and ultimately traffic, can be the hardest part.
There are tools out there that you can pay a monthly fee for $25 – 50 bucks on average – more if you aren’t careful – to do this for you automagically.
